The exact steps
From your Etsy dashboard: Shop Manager → Marketing → Off-Site Ads. If you're eligible to opt out, you'll see a toggle or an "Opt out" link with your current status. Confirm, and it applies going forward — it doesn't retroactively refund fees on past attributed orders.
Etsy re-checks eligibility periodically based on trailing 12-month revenue. If you cross $10,000 after opting out, Off-Site Ads re-enables automatically at the mandatory 12% rate, and the opt-out option disappears until trailing revenue drops back below the threshold.
What actually changes after you opt out
You stop being charged the 12–15% attribution fee, and your listings stop appearing in Etsy's external ad placements on Google Shopping, Pinterest, Facebook, and Instagram. Your organic Etsy search ranking is unaffected — Off-Site Ads eligibility and on-site search placement are separate systems.
For sellers who rely heavily on off-Etsy discovery (Pinterest-driven categories especially), the traffic lost is usually smaller than feared — Off-Site Ads mostly amplifies listings that were already getting some organic traction, rather than creating demand from nothing.
Is opting out the right call?
For thin-margin categories — anything where flat fees already dominate, roughly sub-$15 items — opting out is close to a free win: no downside beyond a traffic channel that was often barely profitable to begin with. For healthy-margin categories, it's worth checking the actual math on your specific listings before deciding, since 12–15% of a well-padded margin is a very different decision than 12–15% of a listing already running at 10% net.
